Pre-Birth/Labor Preparation
Pre-birth acupuncture treatments are designed to help prepare the woman's body for the transition from pregnancy to labor & birth. Emphasis is given to improving blood circulation to the pelvis & ripening of the cervix as well as addressing any specific individual needs prior to giving birth. While no one can predict exactly how your labor will unfold, you do have the power to prepare yourself physically, emotionally & spiritually for the welcoming of this new life.
For over 3000 years, traditional Chinese medicine has promoted specialized treatment for women in pregnancy care and postpartum recovery. Acupuncture is a safe, effective and drug-free medical choice that can support mother & child throughout pregnancy, birth and beyond. While acupuncture is viewed by many as an ‘alternative’ medicine, its use in pregnancy is widespread in certain countries such as Denmark, France, Germany, Switzerland and New Zealand, where midwives undertake specialized acupuncture training.
The Treatment Plan
Three to four weeks prior to the due date, a treatment to prepare the pelvis and cervix can be given. The treatment plan follows a once-a-week visit to prepare the woman’s body for birth, ease emotional stresses and build stamina until labor begins. Treatments focus on promoting natural labor while also addressing any specific presenting problems. Specific sets of points on the arms, legs and ears are chosen and additional points can be added according to each woman's individual needs.
In addition to acupuncture treatment, education and demonstration of effective acupressure support for pain relief during labor will be taught. This will also be a time to share and explore the use of essential oils, crystals and other beautiful modalities that can be incorporated into the birth experience.
